Systemic Improvement
Systemic improvement is not linear.
What goes on in classrooms is at the heart of instructional improvement. Several years ago CISD adopted Instructional Rounds. The idea behind instructional rounds is similar to rounds made in the medical profession. Doctors focus on the "cause & effect" of their practice. How do their patients respond? Educators must focus on this same aspect...how are their students responding?
We are currently utilizing "Data Walks" which is similar in theory. However it gives us a broader spectrum to view with a more invidualized lense as needed. It still focuses on the learning process and how our students are responding to our instructional delivery.

Our focus will always be on the learning process...
Out of all the systems, practices and theories we have seen go through the educational world...feedback is the heart of it all. To foster the culture of a growth mindset as well as reflection, there has to be quality feedback. Data comes in all forms--from walkthrough data to student performance data. Press the buttons below for JJE's latest growth reports. Our teachers and students both are becoming proficient with the use of data to guide activities, interventions and many other things as well.
2016-17 Students are tracking thier own progress this year. It makes an impact when they have a road map (of data) that shows them where they have been, where they are and where they need to go. We also had our first student-led parent conferences. Parents left impressed and better informed as well.

Our first "Instructional Rounds" was facilitated in October. The JJE Leadership Team took our results and created a Momentum Plan to guide us toward accomplishing our goals for the 2014-15 year.
Below you will find Chapter 15--Questioning Techniques That Work. It was the first 'study' our teachers worked on so that our questioning techniques could be strengthened. We agreed that the level of student responses would increase as a result of higher quality questioning.
